Finding the name of your PC

Your computer name (also called hostname or device name) helps identify your machine on a network. Here’s how to find it using either the command line or the graphical interface.


šŸ”§ Using Command Line (All Platforms)

Open the command prompt, PowerShell, or terminal and type:

hostname

Press Enter. Your computer name will appear.


🪟 Windows 11 (Graphical Method)

  1. Click theĀ StartĀ menu and chooseĀ SettingsĀ (gear icon).
  2. SelectĀ SystemĀ from the left sidebar.
  3. Scroll down and clickĀ About.
  4. UnderĀ Device Specifications, look forĀ Device Name.

šŸŽ macOS (Sonoma and later)

  1. Click theĀ Apple menu and chooseĀ System Settings.
  2. Scroll down and selectĀ General.
  3. ClickĀ Sharing.
  4. Your computer name appears at the top of the window.
