Finding the name of your PC

Your computer name (also called hostname or device name) helps identify your machine on a network. Here’s how to find it using either the command line or the graphical interface.


🔧 Using Command Line (All Platforms)

Open the command prompt, PowerShell, or terminal and type:

hostname

Press Enter. Your computer name will appear.


🪟 Windows 11 (Graphical Method)

  1. Click the Start menu and choose Settings (gear icon).
  2. Select System from the left sidebar.
  3. Scroll down and click About.
  4. Under Device Specifications, look for Device Name.

🍎 macOS (Sonoma and later)

  1. Click the Apple menu and choose System Settings.
  2. Scroll down and select General.
  3. Click Sharing.
  4. Your computer name appears at the top of the window.
