Finding the name of your PC
Your computer name (also called hostname or device name) helps identify your machine on a network. Hereās how to find it using either the command line or the graphical interface.
š§ Using Command Line (All Platforms)
Open the command prompt, PowerShell, or terminal and type:
hostname
Press Enter. Your computer name will appear.
šŖ Windows 11 (Graphical Method)
- Click theĀ StartĀ menu and chooseĀ SettingsĀ (gear icon).
- SelectĀ SystemĀ from the left sidebar.
- Scroll down and clickĀ About.
- UnderĀ Device Specifications, look forĀ Device Name.
š macOS (Sonoma and later)
- Click theĀ Apple menu and chooseĀ System Settings.
- Scroll down and selectĀ General.
- ClickĀ Sharing.
- Your computer name appears at the top of the window.
