The Office of Information Technology is upgrading to a new Internet connection at the Archdiocesan Pastoral Center and Holy Family Center.
Update: June 23, 12:53 am:
The maintenance took place as planned. All networks were migrated to the new internet connection and legacy networks were removed or consolidated. We will have staff on site on Monday June 24 to help assist with any unforeseen issues that may have been caused by this change.
NOTE: First try rebooting your PC if you can’t log in, drives are missing or printers are not connected. Then, if this doesn’t help, please e-mail the help desk for fastest service related to this outage. Our extra staff on hand will be prioritizing these requests, and can easily determine e-mailed requests related to the outage where as phone calls will take much longer to listen to and transcribe.
What is Happening?
OIT will be performing maintenance on Saturday, June 22nd, 2019. Starting at 9:00 am, there will be intermittent access to the Internet for both wired and wireless devices at the Archdiocesan Pastoral Center and Holy Family Center. This will also affect the IP phones at these locations. This maintenance will not affect email access Internet or phones at any other location. We expect this maintenance to not take longer than 8 hours to complete.
Why is This Happening?
We are upgrading the speed of the Internet connection to 1,000 Mbps from 100 Mbps in order to lower costs and eliminate network congestion at peak times. During the maintenance we will also be consolidating redundant networks on the APC campus, allowing for an easier to manage network.
Technical Information
There are currently two separate Internet connections at the APC/HFC. This is a legacy configuration that was set up long ago. We plan on consolidating with the new faster connection and eliminating the two existing connections. In addition, there are two different network address spaces being used for the devices at the APC/HFC. This was how the system determined which Internet connection each system used. we are consolidating the address spaces into a single easier to manage space and cleaning up a lot of old configuration information that is no longer needed.
